“You’re not going.”
“Yes, I am”, says Nanami.
“Then I’m going with you.”
Nanami huffs, sitting up from where she’d been lying against Tomoe’s chest and glaring at him.
“I already told you, Tomoe, it’s a girls only trip”, she says. “Kei-chan will kill me if I let you come along like last time.”
For a few moments they keep staring at each other. It’s like a silent challenge, one they’re quite used to having by now; when it doesn’t seem like Tomoe will back down, Nanami breaks the silence.
“Why are you so against me going to the beach anyway? I’m not the Land God anymore. No yokai threats. I’m just going to have some fun with my friends.”
“It’s not yokais I’m worried about”, Tomoe says, grabbing Nanami’s waist to pull her closer to him again. “And you can have fun here, with me.”
To his astonishment, Nanami bursts out laughing.
“Tomoe, are you jealous?”, she asks. He doesn’t answer, but the blush on his cheeks and the way he averts his eyes are the only answer she needs. “Stupid Tomoe. There’s no need to be jealous.”
He hides his face on her neck, leaving a trail of soft kisses. Nanami sighs, knowing he’s trying to distract her and avoid the subject.
“I am going to the beach, Tomoe”, she repeats, running her fingers through his hair. “You don’t have to worry.”
“You’re right”, Tomoe says, and Nanami’s eyes widen in surprise. Before she can marvel at her boyfriends’ sudden agreement, though, his lips close over the skin right above her collarbone and suck, hard.
“Tomoe!” She doesn’t even have to look to know he’s left a mark; the smug look on his face is enough proof. “There’s no way I can hide that with a swimsuit.”
“That’s the point”, he says, ignoring the angry look on Nanami’s face. “Now I really don’t have to worry.”
“I hate you”, she mumbles, pouting. Tomoe laughs and tightens his hold on her, leaning in to press his lips against hers.
“No, you love me.”
